We believe art making should be accessible to everyone. Artists need adequate space in which to create and teach, and that space should inspire and support their creative process. Spiral Arts Studio is a community space that strives to provide access and space to artists and community members to engage, learn, create, and inspire. Join our community of makers and let the beauty we love be what we do. Please feel free to drop by and say hello and play. We look forward to meeting you and if your a beginner IT'S NOT PROBLEM YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN OUR COMMUNITY OF MAKERS!
How We Got Here
We were founded in 2017 by Daniela de Sousa and Genevieve Govoni, certified art teachers who just couldn't get enough. Spiral Arts came together with grassroots efforts to gather and create, and we continue to grow. From the make shift basement studio, to over 900 sq/ft with a fully equipped ceramic studio, etching and lithograph printing press, silk screen press, among other studio tools and equipment to meet a variety of creative needs. Our talented community works together to help cultivate the inner artist in all students, members and guests who come into our Art Studio.
Spiral Arts Studio is a well respected and thriving community Art Studio in Willimantic. We’ve got a history of commitment toward our community and our artists. While we’re dedicated to creating our own art and providing space to artists and enthusiasts to work and teach, we’re also devoted to bringing art making to the forefront of entertainment and education. Our studio aims to provide art education and work space to artists, children and adults, and help them design and create a better world.
Art for All
Spiral Arts Studio is inspired by the Bread and Puppet Theater and its cheap art movement and manifesto written by Peter Schumann.
"PEOPLE have been THINKING too long that ART is a PRIVILEGE of the MUSEUMS & the RICH.
ART IS NOT BUSINESS! It does not belong to banks & fancy investors.
ART IS FOOD. You can't EAT it BUT it FEEDS you.
ART has to be CHEAP & available to EVERYBODY. It needs to be EVERYWHERE because it is the INSIDE of the WORLD.
ART SOOTHES PAIN! Art wakes up sleepers! ART FIGHTS AGAINST WAR & STUPIDITY! ART SINGS HALLELUJA! ART IS FOR KITCHENS! ART IS LIKE GOOD BREAD! Art is like green trees! Art is like white clouds in blue sky!
ART IS CHEAP! HURRAH!"

Get your hands dirty with a fun and interactive Ceramics class today.
We offer pottery wheel for beginners and intermediate levels. Like learning to play a musical instrument, wheel throwing is a skill that requires practice. We'll give you the basic steps to get started. You'll have a week of bench time during our open hours, then a second session to glaze. If you can't get enough you may consider becoming a studio member and continue on with this messy, unpredictable, but deeply centering practice.
We also offer hand building workshops where you can learn to make all sorts of beautiful objects using clay slabs and coils, textures, surface design and press molds. Participants feel extremely accomplished after making their own ceramic ware and may become seriously addicted!
Workshops are designed to introduce you to these practices and the studio environment without costly, long term commitments. They consist of two 3 hour sessions a week apart. All material are included and no experience required. Ages 14+
Class sizes are kept small in order to ensure each participant gets enough attention from the instructor.
Ceramics workshops are a great way to mingle and meet other local artists in the community or to learn something new with a friend, partner, or family member.
